Chicken Coop House

Building a chicken coop house? Have you gone crazy and lost your marbles? This is what my mother-in-law had to say when she heard about my ambitious plans of building a chicken coop.

She had, in any case, credited me with the sense and brains of a fly and hence felt vindicated when she realized that I was going to spend another couple of days building something that she felt was a complete waste of time.

Well, there is really no point in trying to convince your m-i-l that she is wrong, when she is hell bent on singling you out as public enemy number one!

And so the day dawned when I was going to start the preparations to build a chicken coop house.

I was able to convince my wife, something that I am not usually good at, that I had to do something that would prove that I still had that spark in me to carry out a project that I had set my mind to.

Let me tell you, that this was no ordinary task. With a wife who thought I was trying to make a fool of myself and an m-i-l who was convinced that as a nutcase I had proved my mettle, I had no choice but to rise above these issues and put myself back into the land of the living.

I had decided to have eight chickens to begin with; I also knew that I needed, at least, 4.5 sq.ft. of space for each of these chickens. It would give them enough space to roam about and fend for themselves.

Apart from this, I had to design the chicken coop house in such a way that there was enough places for chickens to fly a short distance and perch themselves. For this, each chicken would require a space of at least nine inches. I had taken this dimension as well into account.

Once I had got these basics into place, I knew that the chicken coop house that I was going to build would make my wife and her mother sit up and take notice of a so-called nincompoop like me.

Well, you will be happy to know that I was not wrong. After three days, I rested. It was indeed an achievement. Even the creator rested only after seven days.

I do not want to listen to arguments of Him creating things a lot more complicated than a chicken coop. I know I am not in His league and have no intention of getting into it either!

Today, my chicken coop house stands as a symbol of my achievement. I now understand what Einstein or Newton felt like when they discovered that they had actually made a significant contribution to the existence of mankind.

Mine was not all that wonderful by other people’s standards; nevertheless, I felt good.
